Mattel Brick Shop

Mattel, a leading company in the toy industry, has officially launched the highly anticipated Mattel Brick Shop. This exciting new initiative provides a fresh way for fans to engage with the iconic Hot Wheels brand. By combining the joy of building with the thrill of collecting, it offers a unique experience for car enthusiasts of all ages.

The inaugural collection from Mattel Brick Shop features buildable models of popular Hot Wheels vehicles. Each set comes with a meticulously crafted 1/64 scale diecast replica of the same car. This exciting combination allows fans to construct their favorite cars brick by brick while also owning a detailed diecast version, which is perfect for display or play.

The initial rollout features seven distinct sets across three different series, catering to various scales and levels of detail:

  • Hot Wheels Speed Series: These 1:32 scale models are priced at around $20, making them an excellent entry point into the Mattel Brick Shop experience. The initial launch features the Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar, Maserati MC20, and Custom ’68 Camaro. With piece counts ranging from 236 to 289, these sets include customizable elements like wheel covers and decals, as well as opening doors for enhanced realism.
  • Hot Wheels Elite Series: This series, scaled at 1:16 and priced around $50, offers a more detailed building experience with sets containing between 858 and 918 pieces. The initial models include a classic Corvette Grand Sport, a 1990 Acura/Honda NSX equipped with pop-up headlights and functional steering, and a surf-themed 1962 Chevrolet Pickup. These models feature enhanced customization options, including licensed wheel covers from American Racing and Rays, as well as extra parts that allow builders to transform the vehicles into various versions, such as a Corvette racer or a hot rod pickup.
  • Hot Wheels Premium Series: At the top of the line is the 1:12 scale Mercedes-Benz 300 SL “Gullwing,” priced at around $120. This impressive set, consisting of 1600 pieces, showcases exceptional detail, including opening doors, a metal Mercedes-Benz crest, and a luxurious interior.

What distinguishes the Mattel Brick Shop is the incorporation of real metal parts in certain models, such as mirrors and wheel hubs. This feature enhances the authenticity and premium quality of the builds. Additionally, the sets provide significant customization options, including licensed decals and interchangeable parts, allowing builders to truly personalize their creations.

Roberto Stanichi of Mattel emphasized that this new collection delivers “what car fans have been clamoring for: buildable vehicles that offer true car authenticity.” He added that the design team carefully recreated these vehicles in brick form while maintaining their iconic features, enhanced by real metal components and an exclusive matching diecast car.

The Mattel Brick Shop’s Hot Wheels Collector Builds are currently available for pre-order at select retailers worldwide and are expected to arrive on retail shelves this summer. This launch represents an exciting expansion for Mattel as it further enters the building block market, providing fans with a new way to engage with the beloved Hot Wheels franchise. In addition to Hot Wheels, Mattel has suggested that future Mattel Brick Shop lines will feature both new and familiar intellectual properties, promising a diverse range of building experiences ahead.
